HONOR GUARD

Military Funeral Honors: VFW posts across the country offer military funeral honors to eligible veterans, which are authorized by the Department of Defense and the Veteran's Administration.

Ceremonies: The VFW Honor Guard typically conducts a ceremony that includes:

  • A three-volley rifle salute.
  • The sounding of Taps.
  • The ceremonial folding and presenting of the American flag to the family of the deceased.

Significance: These ceremonies are a final demonstration of the nation's gratitude to those who have served in the military.

Eligibility: Any person who has completed at least one enlistment or other obligated military service and received an honorable discharge is eligible for Military Funeral Honors.

How to Obtain VFW Honor Guard Services: Families of deceased veterans can request VFW Honor Guard services by contacting their local VFW post.

Beyond Funerals: Some VFW Honor Guards also participate in parades, community events, and flag presentations.

Funding: The VFW Post 180 Honor Guard volunteers are distinguished by their black and white uniforms with campaign hats. While we do not charge for these services, we do accept donations, the proceeds of which go to the support of our fellow veterans, family and the community.
